The regional tournament for region 8 AA has come to an end, and the Haywood Tomcats (Brownsville, TN), defeated the Ripley Tigers (Ripley, TN). The gym was full and the two teams are no strangers, as this was the fourth matchup of the two long-time rivals this season. The game started out with Jordon Vanardo making 3 straight 3 pointers to help lead the Tomcats to an early double digit lead. The Tigers started slow but would close the gap after Shaquille Holloway would knock down a couple of 3 pointers of his own and Isaiah Crawley was able to get a couple of big and-1 baskets. The game was close in the first half but after the halftime break, the Tomcats came out aggressive on both ends of the court, causing several turnovers, which led to scoring opportunities for the Tomcats. Haywood began to widen their lead during the 3rd quarter, in which Sr. guard, Jalen Benton would control the pace of the game and help lead the charge, as the Tomcats would go on to hold their lead during the 4th quarter, to win the game 80-63, and be crowned the 2014-15 regional champions.  For Haywood, Vanardo, Benton and Delk were named to the All Tournament Team, and for Ripley it would be Holloway, Culbreath and Crawley taking home the honors. Ripley will be heading to Lexington, TN to play on Tuuesday night and Haywood will be hosting Jackson Southside (Jackson, TN). Good luck to both teams on their state tournament journey!  #BTSE
