It was Senior Night in Ripley, TN at Saul E. Moore Gymnasium, and the Tigers of Halls, TN were in town trying to play spoiler. The crowd was electric from the outset of the game. This wasn’t just any game, this was a county rivalry game. The gym was full of family and friends from Lauderdale County and some other surrounding towns. It was Senior Night, but the night was also dedicated to former Ripley High School standout, Anthony Barbee, whom the world tragically lost earlier that week, so it was only right that the gym was filled with all types of emotions of excitement and intensity on the hardwood.

The first half was a back and forth battle between the county rivals and neither team would gain that big of a lead in quarters 1 and 2, with the score being tied 31-31 at halftime. The 3rd quarter started with Halls gaining a double digit lead, all while being led by Junior guard, Tavon King. King drained shot after shot in the 3rd quarter and that’s how he began the 4th quarter as well. With Ripley’s leading scorer and Senior guard, Chad Culbreath sitting on the sideline along with another starter, Ripley started the 4th quarter down by double digits, and then it happened…Ripley made a run that was sparked by Senior Sportez Currie. Currie was able to get a couple of steals which led to easy layups, and it brought life back into the team. Halls was starting to lose their lead and now Ripley was gaining all of the momentum. Down the stretch, the game was beginning to look like a boxing match, as both teams just kept taking the other’s best shot and would still keep coming back for more but during the last minute, Ripley took a 85-81 lead and that would be the final score. The game was everything it should’ve been and much more and the fans got a chance to watch two good teams and they were able to witness two of the top guards in the state of Tennessee, Chad Culbreath and Tavon King, King totaled 35 points along with 9 assists, while Culbreath scored 33 points 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Great game for both young men!
