The Ripley High School Boy’s Basketball team hosted the 2nd annual “George Terrell Classic,” in Ripley, TN. This event took place at the Saul E. Moore gymnasium on the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. There were several schools from the surrounding area and those schools included Memphis-Westwood, Marion, Arkansas, Lexington(TN), Fayette-Ware, Munford, Haywood High School and the host team, Ripley High. Fayette-Ware and Ripley participated in both nights and finished the classic 2-0. Haywood participated on Saturday and defeated Memphis-Westwood.
On Friday night, Ripley senior guard Chad Culbreath was able to drop 40 points but also had 6 assists and 5 steals. Saturday night Jordon Vanardo and Jalen Benton led the way for the Haywood Tomcats as they rolled Memphis-Westwood, and for Ripley, Isaiah Crawley was the man on Saturday night in their game against the Munford Cougars, with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The “George Terrell Classic” is named in honor of Coach George Terrell, a Ripley, TN native and along with his wife, has been a very integral part of the basketball programs at Ripley High School. This event has proven to be great for not only for the boy’s basketball team, but for the Ripley, TN community as a whole, as it gives the community and surrounding areas to watch some great basketball right after the Thanksgiving holiday. Catch you all at the 3rd Annual “George Terrell Classic” next year!
