Last night there was a lot of buzz and rumors flying over the place, the first pick was never in question, in my opinion but picks 2-32 could have gone any kind of way and that’s exactly what happened. The first shocker of the night was the Jacksonville Jaguars selecting Blake Bortles. You know what they say, the NFL is a quarterback driven league, and it doesn’t hurt that he is accustomed to the state, seeing as how he was just playing in a bowl game for Central Florida.
The stage had been set, the first QB off the board was Bortles, not Manziel, Bridgewater or Carr. Now it was time to take in the show. The Bills made the next big splash by trading up to get an electric playmaker, in Clemson’s Sammy Watkins. Pairing Watkins with E.J. Manuel, Robert Woods, Stevie Johnson(for the moment) and C.J. Spiller, should really make for a something special to see in the AFC East. The draft remained calm until the shocker of the night happened…the Cowboys were on the clock and Johnny Manziel was on the board. Jerry Jones couldn’t possibly pass up on drafting a name as big as
, or could he? The pick was in…and the Cowboys select…Zach Martin, offensive lineman from Notre Dame. I didn’t think they would draft Manziel but you never quite know with Jerry.
The draft was pretty quiet after that pick, the only QB that remained in the green room was Teddy Bridegwater and he would last until the final pick, when the Minnesota Vikings would trade back into the first round with the Seattle Seahawks to grab the Louisville signal-caller. All-in-all I would say that the first round was everything it was hyped to be. Now it’s time for teams to start looking for that talent that can fill their roster, the players that teams didn’t have as their top priority but see them as quality players that fill a need on their roster. It’s Day 2 of the NFL…ARE YOU READY?!?
